SAMA Assessments
The Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA) manages the province's property assessment system. This agency provides assessment valuation services to all municipalities within Saskatchewan and is directly responsible for preparing the assessed values for all the properties within the Rural Municipality of Antler. The R.M. uses the information that SAMA provides and applies tax tools such as mill rate and mill rate factors to determine municipal taxes. [Click here for SAMA information sheets]
Revaluation
-
Every four years there is a revaluation year which is when all property assessments are updated to reflect the new base data that has been collected. The next revaluation year will be 2029.
Assessment Notices
-
Assessment notices are sent out to property owners every four years during a revaluation year OR if there has been a change to the property (examples: removal of a house, construction of new house or addition to existing house etc.).
-
When you receive an assessment notice it is important to review the information to make sure it is correct. (Review land locations, compare property value from last year to current year, proper 293 exemption has been recorded etc.) If you have any questions or concerns with the information on your assessment notice please contact the R.M. Office for clarification.
Appealing your Assessment
-
If there has been an error on your assessment notice you can send an appeal to Western Municipal Consulting. There are certain things that can be appealed and certain things that cannot be appealed. For example, if your property has had a home removed and that home still appears on your assessment notice, that can be appealed. You can not appeal the assessed value of your property.
-
On the back of your assessment notice is the document needed to submit an appeal. There is a $375.00 appeal fee that must accompany your appeal application. [Click here for the Assessment Appeal Fee Bylaw]
